KSM Health Camp – 10th Flood and Disaster Relief Project

08 Jan

Ankumbura, located in the Kandy District, was one of the areas severely affected by a devastating landslide during the Ditwa Cyclone, which resulted in several fatalities. Due to landslides, damaged roads, and persistent bad weather, the area remained inaccessible for many days.

Communication with the outside world was also completely disrupted during this period.
In response to this disaster, Dr. Sampath Gnanaratha, Consultant Gynecologist and Obstetrician and a KSM Council Member, took the initiative to lead a comprehensive health camp in Ankumbura. The mission was conducted under the guidance of Prof. Arinda
Dharmapala, President of KSM, with the participation of many KSM council members and volunteer doctors representing multiple medical specialties.

Two health camps were conducted simultaneously at two separate locations in the area, Sri Sudarshanaramaya- welgala- Ankumbura and
K/Parakrama National School Ankumbura.

These camps provided medical consultations, health screenings, and essential medications to over 500 patients from the affected communities.

In parallel with the medical services, KSM organized a relief donation program. Clothing, sanitary items, and dry rations were distributed to the collection center established at the Sri Sudarshanaramaya temple to support displaced and affected families.

The success of the relief effort was supported by the dedicated coordination of the team:
Dr. Ashani Ratnayake managed the distribution and handling of medications with team of doctors.

Dr. Senani Egadage was responsible for organizing and distributing clothing supplies.

This project reflected KSM’s commitment to humanitarian service and community support during times of disaster, providing both medical care and essential relief to those in need.

We thank the Chief Thero of the Temple , D.M. Shalika Deegala Divisional Secretariat of
Pujapitiya and other officials who supported this mission and official commitment.
Team of dental doctors conducted dental care and procedures during this program.
