Message From President

I am honored and privileged to pen this Message as the President of KSM for the year 2025/26. At the same time, I feel humbled too, in joining a galaxy of my predecessors, who were giants in the field of medicine. They contributed immensely to the KSM since its inception in 1964, from being a local medical association to an internationally recognized medical association in Sri Lanka. This is the second oldest medical association, with international standing in its academic programmes, publishing its own Journal – The Sri Lanka Journal of Medicine. The KSM holds its annual academic sessions that include two main Orations and also a prestigious KSM Health Prize Oration at the foundation sessions. The objectives of our society are multifaceted, including the empowering of the health professionals in Sri Lanka, enhancing their knowledge and skills through continuous medical education, encouraging research in health care, thereby promoting innovation, and practice of evidence based medicine, contributing to the advancement of health care, fostering camaraderie among members and health professionals by organizing social gatherings and community based activities and also enhancing public awareness in health care by conducting seminars and workshops.

This year, we intend to strive forward through the theme of KSM – “Achieving global excellence in health care through scientific advances”. This topic is well aligned with the objectives of the KSM. Our health professionals over the years have achieved much in health indices and general health care of the country. We can be proud of it but at the same time we should not be complaisant and be stagnant. We do need to push further to reach global excellence in health care by promoting research and introducing innovative steps into our health care system.

We have a very dynamic membership holding an array of specialties. Therefore, I am confident that my Council and I will be able to take up the tasks and challenges ahead and successfully complete and deliver the achievements to the membership as well as to the other health professionals of the country.
